RE: CFM News & Updates

Hello to all,

Here is a quick update and a call to get involved on a few projects.

1) Thanksgiving Feast

2) Operation Christmas Child (shoeboxes)

3) Report on our efforts re: The September 11th Tragedy

4) Cooked Turkeys needed to help less fortunate people

5) SYNOD – Call to Get Involved (Do you really know what it is?)

6) Updates on www.stlmcfm.org website

=======================================================================

1) THANKSGIVING FEAST

The CFM Thanksgiving Feast is THIS SUNDAY afternoon November 11th, 3-6pm, at the STLM Hall (details on our website www.stlmcfm.org). Please park in the ally behind the car wash, we do not want to disturb Sunday evening mass or parking.

Come Early to decorate your group’s table and reserve good seats for your family. There will be Pre-event activities for the kids (both big & small). Be sure you have a designated child watcher if needed. No babysitting is provided at the event. An Indoor Stage show for kids and adults is scheduled after dessert.

After dinner, SAVE YOUR LEFTOVERS! We are collecting appropriate leftovers to distribute to needy people via Deacon Frank’s All Life Charities program.

2) Operation Christmas Child (shoeboxes)

As in previous years, CFM is again strongly supporting the Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child. We are collecting the shoeboxes at our Thanksgiving feast. They will be distributed to needy children in the US and in internationally who may not otherwise know any Christmas gifts or encouragement from God this year. Remember it is recommended that a clear plastic, snap top, small storage box be used instead of a shoebox. This offers further functionality to your generous gift.

If you are not attending the “CFM Feast” you can contact the Shoebox Coordinator Donna Paine directly at 310/792-9457. There is still plenty of time to get involved. You can prepare a box or help at the distribution center for Southern California.

3) Support Efforts Re: September 11th Tragedy

As mentioned 25% of the funds we collected from the CFM Kickoff are going to help the victims of the September 11 tragedy. The total amount of the donations and the specific funds will be announced at the Thanksgiving Feast (& after, posted on our website). It has been about 2 months since the shocking event. The ground swell of patriotic sentiment and expressions of religious support are encouraging. Keep praying for world peace and support of our nation as efforts to eliminate terrorist activity continue.

4) Cooked Turkeys are needed to help less fortunate people.

In addition to our Famous Bologna Sandwich Nights at our CFM meetings there is a specific call for Cooked turkeys to be delivered by 11-15 (1 week away) so that they can be served during the many outreach Thanksgiving efforts around our city and neighborhoods. We hope you can find time in your busy lives and space in your ovens to help out. Contact Linbeth Croce directly if you can help out in any way 310/534-5171.

5) SYNOD – Call to Get Involved (Do you really know what it is?)

The SYNOD is a way for the Church to hear from you. What do you like? What do you want changed about the worship experience? This is your chance to be heard.

St. Lawrence Martyr is a big parish and an import voice of the LA Archdiocese. His Eminence Cardinal Roger M. Mahony, Archbishop of Los Angeles, DOES want to hear from you.

Fr. Lenihan is specifically asking CFM to get involved. He feels it is important to hear the voices of the young people and families of the parish.

There are 2 more opportunities to in the near future to get involved: Fri 11/16, 7-9pm & Wed 11/28, 7-9pm. Even if you don’t plan to speak up, please come to church these evenings to experience it. Your involvement and showing will be greatly appreciated. You may even be moved to share your opinions.

6) Updates on www.stlmcfm.org website

This letter and many of the items listed have more details on the www.stlmcfm.org website.

We have added details and more information in the "CFM Group" Section so you can have a quick resource and reminder to YOUR upcoming CFM group meetings and events. There is also an easy way to send an email to your group leaders.

We‘d love to hear some feedback and suggestion on how we can improve our site.

Our CFM Year is off to a great start.

We hope to see you this Sunday!

Take care, God bless,

-STLM CFM Ministry
